CLARE LIVINGSTONE BROWNE, GCM is a graduate of the Ottos Comprehensive School. He began his teaching career in October 1980 as a Supernumerary Teacher at the All Saints Primary School now renamed the J.T. Ambrose Junior Secondary. From September 1982 to June 1984, he successfully undertook the Teacher Education Programme offered at the Antigua State College and endorsed by the University of the West Indies. During the period August 1998 to December 1990, Mr. Browne pursued a Bachelor’s degree (Major: English, Minor: Biology) at the Texas State University. He graduated with honours.
In January 1991, Mr. Browne was assigned to the staff of the Antigua Grammar School as a Senior English Teacher. At that institution he moved from a Classroom Teacher to Head of English in 1998, to Deputy Principal in 2001. In April 2003, Mr. Browne assumed leadership of the school and served as Principal until September 2007 when he left for the Ministry of Education Headquarters to perform duties of Education Officer with responsibility for secondary schools.
In January 2013 Mr. Browne received a year’s duty leave to pursue a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management in Education at the University of Newcastle in Australia. He graduated with distinction. Upon his return to Antigua in January 2014, Mr. Browne was appointed to the position of Deputy Director of Education. He is currently serving the Ministry of Education as the acting Director of Education.
Mr. Browne has served the Caribbean Examination Council as Assistant Examiner – English A and Council Member.
Over several years Mr. Browne has inspired a number of students to aspire to excellence in their pursuit of a great education. During the ceremonial parade of the 30th Anniversary of our nation’s Independence, Mr. Clare Browne received the national honour of Grand Cross of the Most Illustrious Order of Merit (GCM) for his contribution to Education.
Mr. Browne is married to La Verne Browne nee Francis and is the father of two sons – Tajyei and Jaeden.
